This standard specifies the characteristics of natural, artificial or recycled aggregates and mixtures of these materials for use in different construction, landscape regeneration and mining operations. NOTE 1 The UNE Report Complementary information and good practices for the application of standard UNE 146160 Aggregates for non-standard uses, Requirements, currently being drafted, develops examples of uses applicable to the materials covered by the scope of application of this standard. NOTE 2 The standards for the use of materials in earthworks are developed by the CTN 103 committee. Consequently, earthworks are excluded from the scope of application of this standard and the EN 16907 series (Earthworks) will apply to them. NOTE 3 This standard is a product standard as far as its application on secondary raw materials obtained after the waste treatment process is concerned, in accordance with the applicable sectoral regulations. NOTE 2 There may be mixtures of aggregates from different origins in order to ensure compliance with geometrical and physico-chemical parameters as well as homogeneity of recycled and artificial aggregates. This standard also applies to mixtures or combinations of aggregates of different natures and origins. Natural, recycled and artificial aggregates are excluded for the uses listed in the harmonised European product standards, indicated in the Introduction. Annexes A (Normative) and B (Informative) provide information on the origin of the materials that can be used as aggregates, for the purposes of the application of this standard, distinguishing between those that are subject to this standard, because there is technical evidence and experience of use, and those that may become so when there is sufficient information to ensure technical feasibility based on experience of use or quantities used.
