This standard specifies mechanical safety requirements for clothing, including hats, gloves, scarves, socks, bonnets and other clothing accessories, for babies up to 36 months of age and up to and including 98 cm in height, to avoid risks due to the existence or generation of small parts and sharp or pointed elements, as well as the corresponding test methods. This standard does not apply to: a) childcare articles; b) shoes, boots and similar footwear; c) toys (see NOTE 2). NOTE 1 The above points are covered by other Technical Committees and, as such, are out of the scope of this document. NOTE 2 Disguise costumes, including carnival costumes, are examples of clothing that are toys and are within the scope of applicable toy safety legislation. The purpose of this document does not cover all the potential risks that an unsafe garment can cause.
