This standard specifies the test methods and requirements for cable systems with extruded insulation and their accessories for fixed installations, for rated voltages above 150 kV (Um = 170 kV) up to and including 500 kV (Um = 550 kV). The requirements apply to single-core cables and their accessories under normal installation and service conditions, but do not apply to special cables and their accessories, such as submarine cables, for which modifications to normal tests or special test conditions may be required. This standard does not cover transition splices between cables with extruded insulation and paper-insulated cables.
