This practice covers acceptance criteria for visual inspection of parts made from glass-reinforced plastic laminates. It presents word descriptions of possible defects to serve as a guide for contracts, drawings, product specifications, and final inspection. This practice also categorizes different inspection requirements for levels of product quality. The acceptance criteria shall be applied to the following: dimensions and tolerances, inserts, molded-in threads or cored holes, workmanship, critical area, allowable visual defects, repairable defects, surface finish, and surface appearance. Four acceptance levels for visual inspection are described: Acceptance Level I, Acceptance Level II, Acceptance Level III, and Acceptance Level IV.

Popis

1.1 This practice covers acceptance criteria for visual inspection of recreational and amusement park parts that do not come in contact with chemicals beyond reasonable cleaners and are made from molded glass-reinforced plastic laminates except as noted in 1.2.

1.2 This practice in its entirety shall not apply to the following:

1.2.1 Contact-molded reinforced thermosetting plastic laminates designed to comply with Specification C582.

1.2.2 Fiberglass sewer pipe designed to comply with Specification D3262.

1.2.3 Fiberglass pressure pipe designed to comply with Specification D3517.

1.2.4 Fiberglass sewer and industrial pressure pipe designed to comply with Specification D3754.

1.2.5 Filament-Wound Glass-Fiber-Reinforced Thermoset Resin Corrosion Resistant Tanks designed to comply with Specification D3299.

1.2.6 Contact-Molded Glass- Fiber-Reinforced Thermoset Resin Corrosion Resistant Tanks designed to comply with Specification D4097.

1.2.7 Contact-Molded “Fiberglass’ (Glass-Fiber-Reinforced Thermosetting Resin) Corrosion Resistant Pipe and Fittings designed to comply with Specification D6041.

1.2.8 Contact-Molded “Fiberglass’ (Glass-Fiber-Reinforced Thermosetting Resin) Ducts designed to comply with Specification D3982.

1.2.9 Contact-Molded “Fiberglass’ (Glass-Fiber-Reinforced Thermosetting Resin) Flanges designed to comply with Specification D5421.

1.2.10 Fiberglass (Glass-Fiber-Reinforced Thermosetting-Resin) Pipe Fittings for Nonpressure Applications designed to comply with Specification D3840.

1.2.11 Fiberglass (Glass-Fiber-Reinforced Thermosetting-Resin) Pipe Joints Using Flexible Elastomeric Seals designed to comply with Specification D4161.

1.2.12 Fiberglass (Glass-Fiber-Reinforced Thermosetting-Resin) Manholes and Wetwells designed to comply with Specification D3753.

1.2.13 Polymer Concrete Pipe designed to comply with Specification D6783.

1.2.14 Filament-Wound “Fiberglass” (Glass-Fiber-Reinforced Thermosetting-Resin) Pipe designed to comply with Specification D2996.

1.2.15 Centrifugally Cast “Fiberglass” (Glass-Fiber-Reinforced Thermosetting-Resin) Pipe designed to comply with Specification D2997.

1.2.16 Machine Made “Fiberglass” (Glass-Fiber-Reinforced Thermosetting Resin) Flanges designed to comply with Specification D4024.

1.2.17 Glass-reinforced plastic laminates whose design criteria are specifically addressed in another ASTM Standard under the jurisdiction of committee D20.

1.3 This practice presents word descriptions of possible defects to serve as a guide for contracts, drawings, product specifications, and final inspection. It is not intended as a guide for inspecting damage to parts related to standard practices listed in 1.2 that have been placed in operation.

1.4 This practice also categorizes different inspection requirements for levels of product quality.

1.5 The allowable size and frequency of permitted defects within the acceptance level categories of this specification are general and not related to specific service requirements. A Level IV of allowable defects which defines allowable size, frequency, and permitted repair procedures shall be established for specific service requirements as agreed upon between the purchaser and the supplier.

1.6 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.

1.7 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

Note 1: There is no known ISO equivalent to this standard.

1.8 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
